The L’Iber Film Club offers a space for meeting and reflecting on different films. Before each session, participants watch the film at home. Then they meet at the museum, where its most notable aspects are discussed and analysed through the screening of a few selected clips.

The Holy Innocents

Released in 1984 and directed by Mario Camus, The Holy Innocents adapts the novel that Miguel Delibes published in 1981. It offers a portrait of rural Spain in the mid-20th century.

The film focuses on a family of peasants who work for the owners of a large country estate. In this way, it shows the deep social inequalities and the power relations that shape the lives of its protagonists. Through its characters, the film explores themes such as dignity, injustice, dependence and the differences between social classes.

In addition, the cast is led by Alfredo Landa, Francisco Rabal, Terele Pávez, Juan Diego, Agustín González and Maribel Martín. The performances of Alfredo Landa and Francisco Rabal were recognised at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival, where they shared the Best Actor award.

Camus’s adaptation remains true to the essence of Delibes’s novel. As a result, it builds a powerful story in which the landscape, the silences, the characters and the relationships between them play a key role.
