Street music is a very old artistic and cultural phenomenon, in which minstrels and comic entertainers created musical forms such as the pasacalle (a lively street parade march). Mosaics already existed in Pompeii that spoke of its existence — that’s how old it is!

Today, we can still find one or several performers in the streets, with or without musical instruments, putting on a spontaneous, free show and appealing to the generosity of the public.

Depending on the city, there may be municipal regulations limiting performance hours or the number of available spots, but there are also places that are very welcoming to this type of music, where these musicians are valued and embraced. New Orleans, Dublin and Valencia are some examples of this.

It is important to remember that many artists began their careers as street musicians, so we shouldn’t forget that it can be a springboard to success! This exhibition is a way of paying tribute to these miniature artists.
