The Reading Club at L’Iber, Museo de los soldaditos de plomo, resumes its sessions with one of the most singular works of 20th-century Spanish literature: The Maestro Juan Martínez, Who Was There, by Manuel Chaves Nogales.
First published in 1934, the book recounts the extraordinary ordeal of a Spanish flamenco dancer trapped in Russia during the 1917 Revolution and the civil war years that followed. Through its pages, Chaves Nogales — one of the finest Spanish-language journalists of his time — builds a human and unflinching portrait of revolutionary chaos, violence, and everyday survival.
The session will be led by Toni Zarza Sepúlveda, who will guide the discussion with his usual enthusiasm and flair.
