Tirant lo Blanch Room
Upon entering the museum, you’ll find the first room: the Tirant lo Blanch Room, filled with a wide variety of figurines. The room is named after the model that takes center stage, paying homage to the quintessential Valencian chivalric romance novel: Tirant lo Blanch.
Tirant Lo Blanch is a chivalric novel written in Valencian by Joanot Martorell and published in Valencia in 1490. It is considered one of the masterpieces of European medieval and Renaissance literature.
The story follows the adventures of the knight Tirant lo Blanco, a brave and compassionate hero who fights for Christianity in various military campaigns. The novel blends chivalric ideals with a more realistic and detailed portrayal of war, politics, and human relationships.
Tirant begins his career as a knight in England, where he triumphs in jousts and tournaments. Later, he travels to Sicily and Rhodes, where he demonstrates his bravery in defending Christian territories.
The novel stands out for its innovative combination of epic, realistic, and romantic elements and for its more human and complex approach compared to other works of chivalry. It was a notable influence on authors such as Miguel de Cervantes, who praised the work in Don Quixote of La Mancha (1605).
Throughout the room, we’ll find models that replicate everyday life, showing that not all of the miniatures at the L’Iber Museum depict scenes of war. In the display cases in this room, we find various topics: the world of art, literature, comics, and film, as well as the history of fashion. Additionally, we see musicians like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, literary characters such as those from Dickens or Cyrano de Bergerac, and operas like The Magic Flute; comics are also represented in this room: Tintin, Asterix, and Obelix, Mortadelo and Filemón, and Disney characters. There’s also models from Star Wars, Chaplin, and Captain Alatriste, as well as fashion designers like Dior and Chanel.
Additionally, to the left of the entrance, you’ll find a display case that hosts quarterly mini-exhibitions on various topics.
