On September 30 at 7:30 PM, L’Iber, Museo de los soldaditos de plomo will hold a new session of its Reading Club, a cultural initiative that invites participants to engage with great works of literature through shared conversation and reflection. This time, the featured reading will be The Aeneid, by Virgil, one of the foundational works of classical literature and one of the most influential poems in the Western tradition. The session will take place in the museum’s conference room and will be led by Toni Zarza.
Written in the 1st century BC, The Aeneid tells the story of Aeneas, a Trojan hero who, after the destruction of Troy, embarks on a long journey shaped by fate, war, loss, and hope. Across its twelve books, Virgil builds a great epic narrative of flight, memory, and the founding of a new homeland, tracing the mythical origins of Rome to Aeneas’s lineage. Heir to Homeric epic and deeply tied to the Roman imagination, the work offers an immensely rich reflection on duty, sacrifice, identity, the will of the gods, and the tension between individual desire and historical mission.
The next session of the Reading Club at L’Iber will offer an approach to this great epic, opening dialogue around some of its essential themes: exile, the making of a hero, the memory of war, the weight of the past, and the search for a place in the world. It will also be an opportunity to rediscover the relevance of the classics and share impressions on a text that, more than two thousand years later, continues to speak to contemporary readers.
With this activity, Museo L’Iber continues to strengthen its cultural programming linked to history, literature, and the classical world, offering a space for encounter where reading becomes a way of exploring the past and engaging with it from the present.
