We’re off to Istanbul!
But this time, we won’t be discovering the Istanbul we already know. We won’t be following the usual tourist routes. This time, we’ll explore a different Istanbul, one that has been the inspiration and setting for great stories: literary Istanbul.
The Istanbul that history’s great authors have written about. The Istanbul of Pierre Loti, of Petros Markaris, of Orhan Pamuk. The Istanbul that all these great authors have referenced in their works.
We will discover the Princes’ Islands, walk through the districts of Beyoğlu and Pera, and visit Fener, once home to the city’s Greek and Armenian minorities.
We will also visit the settings that brought great stories to life. At the Pierre Loti Café, we will relive the oriental atmosphere that so fascinated him and watch the sunset over the Golden Horn. We will walk the streets of Istanbul following in the footsteps of Petros Markaris’s detective Haritos. We will visit Topkapı Palace, which Lady Wortley Montagu describes and discusses in her exquisite letters, offering a closer look at the Ottoman court.
And we won’t forget Spanish authors either: the Galata Tower, from which there is a magnificent view, as our beloved author Blasco Ibáñez tells us. We will also see the mosque where Cervantes worked during the years he spent as a prisoner there in Istanbul.
